Ingredient Focus: Taurine
If it’s in our food, we’ll tell you why.
Taurine is an amino acid that’s beneficial to both cats and dogs—and in fact, for cats, it’s vital. That’s why we source taurine from quality manufacturers in Japan and include it in all of our dry dog and cat food recipes.
Taurine is an essential amino acid for cats, one they can't live without. And because cats can't produce it on their own, it's vital they get it in their diet. That's why we include taurine in every cat recipe.
Unlike cats, dogs can produce taurine. So why is it in all our dry dog recipes? Some breeds are still prone to taurine deficiency, which can lead to a heart condition called Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM).
Grain & Gluten Free
Like people, pets can benefit from a grain and gluten free diet. For some, it’s about preference; for others, it’s a health must.
While most dogs and cats aren’t sensitive to wholesome whole grains like brown rice, pearled barley, and oatmeal, if you spot symptoms like skin rash or digestive upset, (and your pet is already on a whole grain diet without corn, wheat or soy), it may be a food allergy. Check with your veterinarian and ask if your pet could benefit from switching to a grain and gluten free diet.
Maintaining a healthy weight is part of your pet’s overall health and happiness. According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, approximately 53% of dogs and 58% of cats in the United States are overweight. The results can be serious: adverse health effects for even moderate obesity include reduced lifespan, poor bone and joint health, digestive upset and trouble breathing.
To help combat pet obesity, we offer weight control recipes that are lower in calories and fat, and higher in protein and fiber, because a nutritious diet is the first step towards a healthy pet.
'Change your inner world and the outer world will follow.' That's our family motto, especially when it comes to our rescue pets. We feed them Solid Gold because it’s exactly what these seven little souls need for a second chance at the life they deserve.
We were born for adventure.
In 1974 our founder, Sissy McGill, asked a simple, revolutionary question: “Why aren’t we feeding our pets good food?” She believed that holistic nutrition could help pets live longer, healthier, and happier lives. So she followed her intuition, setting out on an adventure to discover all that earth’s wisdom had to offer.Learn more about Sissy’s story.
